When we were discussing our honeymoon, we decided that we wanted to do something a little bit different.

The standard honeymoon plans involve lots of beaches and cocktails, but it doesn’t have to be like that.  We decided that our honeymoon would be a fantastic adventure and that we would do something that would start our marriage as we went to go on.

Over the last year, we have travelled a lot and I think these 5 destinations would make excellent honeymoon locations with a twist.

Reykjavik, Iceland

This is where we went and we loved it.  There is nothing better than snuggling up as newlyweds to warm up from the cold.

On top of that, it is one of the most amazing countries in the world with volcanoes, glaciers, black sand beaches and natural hot springs.

We spent our days explore the whole island and then warm up with a cup of strong Icelandic coffee.  And by night?  Well, we chased the Northern Lights of course!

Lima, Peru

Lima is one of my favourite capital cities in the world.  It oozes with culture and the food is incredible.  If you are a fan of comfort food then you will love Peru.

The capital city is right on the coast and you can head there to swim or take surfing lessons.  You can also catch a bus or a plane and visit the many other amazing places in Peru.

We took the kids with us on this trips so didn’t head to Macchu Pichu, but we did take a speed boat to see wild penguins and sea lions, and spent a night in a desert oasis.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Malaysia is general does not get enough credit, but Kuala Lumpur is particularly impressive.  One of the things that I loved about it was that it was so cheap.

We spent most of our time in Kuala Lumpur eating but when we weren’t doing that we were exploring temples and the fabulous Batu Caves.

Some of the hotels in KL are fantastic and affordable too.  You will get so much more luxury for your money in Kuala Lumpur.

Istanbul, Turkey

Another one that is a bit closer to home is Istanbul.  The coastal areas of Turkey are probably likely candidates for honeymoon destinations, but I think you should consider Istanbul too.

The city itself sits in the edge of Europe and Asia and you feel the influences of both continents as you walf around.  Mosques fill the cityscape and the markets are exactly want you want them to be.  Busy and exciting.

Walt Disney World, Florida

This one is not going to be for everyone, but I think it would make a great honeymoon destination.  For one, it is expensive, so you might as well make it the trip of a lifetime.

Plus, there is so much to do.  Not only are there rides, but there are fantastic restaurants and hotels too.

If you decided to head out of the parks, you can head to the Everglades or some Florida’s amazing beaches and take a dip in the ocean.
