Children’s Fancy Dress Party Dilemma? 7 Ideas To Inspire You

Children love receiving party invitations, don’t they? Sometimes parents welcome the break as well. But what happens when you get an invitation that has the words fancy dress? 

It can be difficult to think of any ideas. Some mothers are crafty and so this wouldn’t create a problem. Others would need to purchase a fancy dress costume. However, the main issue could be what fancy dress costume to go for? Well, you don’t have to fear those invitations anymore because here is a rundown of some ideas. 

Favourite TV or Film Character

This is possibly the easiest one to go with. Characters out of Disney films, Disney prince and princesses. Even the likes of Woody or Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story are all easily achievable. Other suggestions could be pirates, Peppa pig, and Doc McStuffins. 

These costumes are popular so would make them quite easy to get hold of.

A historical figure

You could try and be a little more creative and go for a fancy dress costume of a historical figure. People like past American presidents, Albert Einstein or Queen Elizabeth 1st. You could go a little out there on this one and let your imagination run wild. While using it as an opportunity to teach your children a little bit about the history of the person they are dressing up as. 

An older person

There have been a few pictures floating around the internet about children dressing up like their older generation. Sporting walking sticks, grey hair, and glasses. You could even add a little makeup to create an aged look. 

You could, however, go less extreme and get your little ones to dress up as yourselves or older siblings. I’m sure the children will have lots of fun impersonating their mum and dads, brothers or sisters. 

Favourite book character

You don’t need to save this option for world book day you could allow your child to dress up as their favourite book character whenever the time suited. Characters such as Harry Potter or Hermione Granger are popular choices. 

Another is Wally from the where’s wally book series. The Gruffalo is also another option. The scarecrow or Dorothy from the wizard of oz., Captain Underpants, and Angelina Ballerina also proving popular. 

A theme

You could however just stick with a theme. It could be seasonal such as summer or more specific like valentine’s day, weddings or similar. This option is quite good if you are planning on making the costume yourself but don’t have much confidence in your crafting skills. 

An object

Another option would be to dress up as food. This is giving you options of fruit, vegetables, or even a popcorn box. Other options include chairs, cutlery, or a tree. There are plenty of options available that most likely can be purchased. 

A throwback

Finally, a throwback fancy dress is always a lot of fun. Dressing up in 70’s or 80’s fashion. Maybe even going back further to the early 1900s. Think Downton Abbey style. The options are endless and it’s another chance to discuss a time that your child won’t have been aware of.
